From One Second to the Next--Texting Can Wait.
Is it just me, or does it seem like texting while driving is at an all-time high?. Every time I am looking to merge into a lane, or stopped at a light, it seems as though my fellow drivers' heads are pointed at their laps, staring into an iPhone while attempting to share a road with me. Although we would like to believe that teenagers are the only guilty demographic, this is not the case. According to TextingAndDrivingSafety.com, 27% of adults have sent or received a text message while driving. A scarier statistic, 48% of kids ages 12-17 have been in the car while the driver was texting.
Director Werner Herzog created the above documentary about the frightening consequences of texting while driving. A forewarning that this short documentary is contains graphic descriptions of accidents caused by texting, and is geared more towards high school students and older than lower grade-levels. The L.A. Times best described this documentary as "sobering." It is. It is also informative, frightening, and well worth watching.

You Can Build The Iron Man Suit
Although specifically geared toward the Engineering students at Georgia Tech, the message delivered in this viral video applies to all students starting school in the next few weeks. In this epic welcome speech, Nicholas Selby offers ten tips to the incoming Freshman at Georgia Tech..., but he also speaks about much more. He reminds the students to remember WHY they are there. To learn. To grow. To dream. If they wish to build the Iron Man Suit, then gain the information necessary to build it! His message is a strong and important message for students of all ages. In September, remember why you are in school. Learn from the harder teacher. Sit in the front of the class. Don't procrastinate.
And if you are going to build the Iron Man suit, please do not wear it to school. Thanks.

The first workshop will revolve around Twitter, and will be offered twice on Wednesday, January 23rd. The first at 8:30am, and the second offering will be at 6:30pm. Mr. Carroll, Ms. Hummel, and Mr. Sussman will discuss how to create an account on Twitter, how to use this application, and how we are safely and successfully integrating Twitter into our schools.
